When a user places a call, the PBX server recognizes whether it's an internal or external call. Internal calls route to the SIP address of the phone or user receiving the call. External calls route to the VoIP gateway.
IP-PBX opens up possibilities, allowing for almost unlimited growth in terms of extensions and trunks, and introducing more complex functions that are more costly and difficult to implement with a traditional PBX, such as:
